Description
Ett Land Av Snö och Aska by Petra Rautiainen is a historical fiction novel set in Finnish Lapland during and after World War II. The story follows two timelines: in 1944, a young soldier is called to work as a translator at a secret Nazi prison camp holding “traitors,” Sami and others targeted by the regime, where he witnesses brutality and survival. In 1947, a journalist called Inkeri Lindqvist arrives in Lapland to write about post-war rebuilding but is really searching for her missing husband, uncovering long-buried horrors and local resistance to facing the past.
